I have seen a fair number of photos of different SS Officer’s wearing the cloth visor version including some well into the war. What I’m not sure if I have ever been able to tell in any of those photos is if the band is velvet like material or not. It obviously has to be the right conditions in a photo or extreme close up to make that call.

For whatever reason it seems clear based on a so few photos showing them in wear that pre-40 SS Officer’s (VT and TV) seem to not have embraced the wear of cloth visored field caps regardless of the band material and with or W/O chinstraps.

With all due respect I think it is a mistake to make an assumption on how widely the cap was embraced based on the number of photos you have personally seen. In my own headgear files I have scores of pictures of pre-1940 SS-VT and SS-TV officers wearing the officers' field cap.

When I am not wrong at the VT front lines the cords where often getting removed from the Feldmützen, and the eagle bended to form the cloth.

Robert, it's not a new suggestion at all. Perhaps it wasn't written down in black and white in this thread but the first thing any serious cap collector would suspect of this cap is that it's a re-banded Heer cap. Why? because there are so many re-banded caps on the market, especially eReL's.
You are correct, there is nothing shown in the photos that screams replacement.
So what? If there was clear evidence of a re-band, it wouldn't be a very good job would it?

DO YOU BELIEVE THAT I DID NOT ASK MYSELF THIS QUESTION?
DO YOU ALSO BELIEVE YOU ARE THE ONLY GUY TO DETERMINE IF A VISOR CAP IS RE BANDED OR NOT?

If the cap was in your hands, would you know where and what to look for to find evidence of a re-band? Be honest with yourself and if the answer is not really, that's fine because not many collectors do know.

If this cap were mine and I was convinced it was original, I would take photos of certain details to show the rest of you. It wouldn't be definitive proof, that's impossible but it would be good enough I think.
There has been no reference to these details or attempt to photograph them in this long saga of a thread.

That's why it needs to be inspected by a cap specialist and not just someone who has collected them for a long time or has a large amount of them.
I'm talking about a person who knows exactly how they are constructed and how to identify a franky or a re-band.

I DO NOT DOUBT ABOUT YOUR QUALITIES AND ABILITY TO RESTORE CAPS. YOU MAKE A FANTASTIC JOB WHAT ALSO ALLOWS YOU TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE CONSTRUCTION OF IT. I ALSO APPRECIATE MOST OF YOUR COMMENTS.

I have never felt comfortable with the obtuse collector viewpoint of considering a piece a fake until it is proven to be original. You remove all objectivity when you do that. These pieces existed in large numbers during the war (relatively, of course) and many still exist. The same goes for color-piped caps. Study period photographs. The high number of fakes in existence does not reduce the number of surviving originals. We just have to separate the wheat from the chaff.

The answer of SgtB : I'd like to see this too. Unless the nay-sayers know something that I don't, I see nothing in the photos that tell me that this cap is bad. I've owned several SS crushers (since 1970) and several eReL Heer crushers (other thread), and I'd like to know what everybody doesn't like about this cap!?!?

IN COLCLUSION THIS CRUSHER IS UNTOUCHED AND MADE BEFORE MAY 45.
IT S UP TO YOU TO PROVE THE CONTRARY

IT S THE ONLY POSSIBLE OPTION TO CLOSE THIS DEBATE. MOREOVER IT WILL BE PROFITABLE FOR ALL THE COLLECTOR COMMUNITY.

How true. If every fake and reworked cap magically disappeared there would still be loads left.

Over a Month this Thread is going now, and the only one who put anything from Value in it was Jacques. He showed very professional what is really wrong with this Hat. Beside that, only some unrelated Pictures where posted who really have nothing to do with the OP Hat, and a lot of other Nonsense. When you compare the Hat with all whats out there, what i did now long enough, all i see is a Visor, and not a Crusher. It started his Life as Heer Cap, and then turned into a Crusher and SS. Well made Job indeed, but no one was able to proof something else here. And the Fact that the only one who really knows all the Hints where you need to look when you have it in Hands, didn't get a chance to do so, that alone tells enough to me. I have send Items a lot more worth then this all over the World to show it to someone, never had any Issue. FedEx....cost a few hundred and done. As long as this not happen, just virtual talk with agree and disagree what lead nowhere. But who ever will read this Thread in the years to come will think twice when till he touch a Hat like this.....what is at least one good Thing here

You are ranting now but thanks for caring about my credibility, that's touching.

You said you love the cap, would never sell it and would be buried with it.
So why should you care so desperately what other people think about it?

Actually, please don't answer that. I'm exhausted by your posts and I suspect I'm not the only one.
This has been a masterclass in how NOT to authenticate a cap and how to p iss everyone off.

Finally had a bit time to spare and look more close to this Visor (because this is what it is, a standard Visor and far away from a Crusher). I know mooth are smart...they eat a lot of my Money over the Years. But i have never seen mooth like this. Could someone please explain me how they manage to eat up the piping without eating one single Fiber of the black wool. Sure some magic Mooth at work there.....no idea how much more is needed to see what this funny Hat really is.
