WWW Antique I'll explain it to you, the moth lays the eggs on the fabric, the larva that forms inside eats the part where it is, then when it becomes butterfly it flies away, simple isn't it? Everyone who collects should know this, it is not the moth that eats the fabric but the larva, is born from the egg
What the material is dyed with can effect what insects eat. That's why you can have a black/green wool cap band that is untouched while the red piping is chewed up.
Anyone that has handled enough cloth knows that insects will feast on one material while leaving immediately adjacent material entirely alone - even if both are felt.
it depends where the moth lays the eggs, and the born eats that part then takes flight
Yes!
This makes for an interesting point. I once watched a cap be eaten away at one spot in the farbe, and another spot at the crown - and couldn't figure out why it did not progress much further as time passed. That cap was "gassed" with mothballs, and I can't recall seeing any further progression. No deviation to either side of the specific target in focus. I was told this by another collector once - that the damage is "cyclical", and related to the evolution of the moth and it's larvae where they are distributed. That is, until they are no longer present - by whatever means.

I doubt its the typical Erel construction of Materials
Well Robert, it's disastrous
So, since you are claiming that it is not as it should be, show us on another cap what it should look like. I think you're going to have a lot of trouble.
I ask for an immediate response. It's too easy to tell anything.

Well, I think I understand your problem Robert, you have a memory lapse.
I'll make a last effort to refresh it for you.
Look at the photos of another Erel crusher that I would date around the 1940s. Logically you should still tell me "I doubt its the typical Erel construction of Materials". Non sense
Keep these photos, they may be useful to you one day.
Stay away please.
As I said in my post # 5, I liked this cap.
Many articles and photos later, I still love this cap.
No argument made me change my mind ... but I remain attentive and curious to read an additional technical demonstration by experts (spotting red flags in the photos / close-up)
I'm not an expert on these caps at all but if I was in a court of law and based on the careful detailed evidence Pieand has shown I'd have to vote real. He has convincingly unraveled every criticism of this cap with solid proof. I think this is one of the best threads on the forum in ages and should be pinned.
