That the auction house knows that the majority of these items are reproductions is quite obvious by reading the introduction text. They should call a spade a spade and just mention these are replicas, to avoid luring collectors who don't do their homework.
If you can find a period item in that lot then good luck I had a go at the helmets and maybe two have a chance out the lot, ripoff is a kind word for that firm calling themselves a militaria auction
But to be honest, is this any different to the common market place? All military shows are floated with fakes and most dealers also have had their share in this.
Now it comes down to knowledge, since I see some original items as well, you might win some for low prices if you are lucky.
