Schnaufer's aircraft did have two tail fins, so only both the outer sides would have a swastika and other markings on it.
While the tail fin for the 321 auction is for a Me.109, on this one only the left side shows the painting and victory markings, the right side of the tail fin should have the same markings / painting on it.
There is nothing on the other side, so what happened.
Seller says that he only cleaned it by washing it.
I didn't meet the reserve price however. We shall see what happens now because I'm still keen to buy it.
Jos mentioned that these paintings were unique so it's understandable that initial responses say it should look like Heinz Bär's ME109 rudder.
But, I've done some research and found another rudder from Gordon Gollob's plane that was marked with a remarkably similar eagle with lightning bolts design, knights cross and oak leaves etc. An interesting fact is that both Bär and Gollob served with JG77 so it's more than likely the same artist painted both aircraft and it goes without saying that such high scoring and decorated pilots would have had more than one "personnel" aircraft.
Another interesting fact is that no less than 7 aces with more than 150 kills each flew at one point or another with JG77.
Does all this make the auction rudder completely original? Of course not but I believe the potential is there. Even if the markings are bogus, an original ME109 rudder is still a very rare item.
Yes, indeed, another one.., if they're all JG 77 then one ended war with 150 kills, only one I know sofar with 150 kills is Peter Duttmann of JG 52 .., but planes are not too much my field though.
On that one pic we've the weathering looks strange though.
Well, time will learn..
A tail of a big ace just for grabs, till now I don't believe in that..
Any guarantee comes with the tail ?

Hi Ben !
Not the fact that rudder original!)))))
In the Market there are offers of reproductions!
It is a little skill and imagination - also it will turn out "RARITAT"!)))))
