                New to my collection

                Hello,
I got this cut off Luftwaffe eagle today. I am not sure what it would have originally been sewn from. Any ideas? At a guess, I would say the Luftwaffe issue blue shirt but the material is pretty thick. There are the remains of a pocket at the bottom of the cloth. I hope the photographs are good enough. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
                Thank-you,
                Andy

NICE, REAL, and very unusual Andy. You may be correct in that it's likely from a shirt of some type. It's not from the usual blue shirt, however there were many variations of these. Here is another. Regards,
                    John

Andy, cut material of your eagle looks grey in your photo. Is it?
                      Thanks,
                      John

                        colour of backing cloth

Thanks for your positive comments John. I was happy with it as soon as I saw it. I would say the cloth is grey with a slight hint of blue but if I had to describe the colour, I would say grey. The cloth is also reasonably thick and I think that this comes across in the photographs.
                        Regards,
                        Andy

It does Andy, and I thought yesterday that the material looked more like tunic fabric. I think you may have something more desirable than a cut shirt eagle. IMHO it's cut from a blue-grey tropical tunic. I have a cut eagle from one of these with more tunic material around it. My eagle is backed with grey twill instead of wool, but wool eagles were applied to these as well.

                          Scarce eagle!

                            Luftwaffe eagle cut off

                            John,
The more that I study it in my hand the more that I come to the opinion that this is some sort of tunic. The material just seems too thick to be a shirt. If you are correct and I bow to your superior knowledge in this area, I seem to have a rare bargain. Who said dealers are rip off merchants!

Thanks for your help. Much appreciaited.
                            Best regards,
                            Andy

Funny how this thread popped up the same day I got my first LW eagle in months and months.
