A couple of SOS finds. John wanted me to post the tropical eagle for discussion, as we think it may be a tunic eagle, and not a shirt eagle.

Next is an eagle with a fine quality doeskin wool backing.

And, an unusual variation with unique eagle details.

          Tunic eagle it is..,nice..

Some scarce pics are showing triangular eagles on tunics..
Pity they removed it,a tunic with originaly applied triangular eagle would be great to see..

the other eagles are great too,so many variations till now, never say never..

I thought you would like it Jos. Here it is again with 2 shirt eagles that I picked up as well, for comparison. The unique fabric and overall size of the triangle are what make it so different from all the styles of shirt eagles, which usually only differ by the color of the thread used to sew the eagle, rather than the background fabric.

Willi, that triangular tunic eagle was a great find! All Luft. trop. tunic eagles are scarce, but this is only the second example I have ever seen on the triangular backing. Jos is right on, a tunic that retained one of these eagles would be a rare and wonderful find.

There were a few smock eagles Steve. Also, Chris found an unusual eagle cut from an HBT tunic, it appears to be GREEN WOOL backed!

It's worn, missing some "detail" threads, but looks nice and original to me.

                                Well, well Frenchie,

This is the THIRD triangular tunic eagle posted on this thread! Interesting that it is removable like insignia on the summer tunic. Any history on this piece? Very cool!
