My first thoughts also...but I can find no evidence of where another zip would have been and removed, no old stitch marks etc. Also, postwar used boots often had the ankle straps removed.

Flight Boots
Here is another pair of flight boots bought this weekend ($100.00), at the Raleigh Show. The dealer had the boots and a stack of 'declassified' tech manuals on aircraft 190's 109's 262's all brought home by the Vet. The boots are rough on the inside and looked to be resoled, when who knows. Another with the WICO Zippers. Enjoy. DLAttached Files
