Backpack Parachute Used by Fw190 pilots and Bf110 Gunners

Anyone know the designation for this type of chute:

These came from the "Collect Russia" militaria website and are the best photos I've seen of the backpack chute. I know Fw190 pilots and Bf110 gunners wore them.
I've seen it called a RUFA 12B, FL 30232, or FL 30232-1, but the Prodger books I have don't say anything other than "backpack" and when I Google it I don't get a lot of hits.

    thanks,
    Bob

Admins, Please move this to the Luftwaffe thread, sorry.

Off the top of my head, Fallschirm Modell 30 1 sticks in my mind.

There are two different backpack type chutes that were used. The type that you have pictured could be worn by a Fw-190 pilot or crew member, the second type which is thicker and more square looking would only be worn by a crew member.

    Mike

Thanks Mike, I'll give the Model 30 a try in my search.

Any idea what the aluminum(?) tray was for that the chute rests in? I usually see just some sort of cloth padding against the back of the wearer.

The aluminum was typical for these German chutes. It supported the chute and on the 1st type was probably contoured a bit for user fit.

The FW-190 type was contoured to fit the seat, which also had a "bench" across the back to support the bottom of the parachute.

I have a couple of these, but they are in storage right now and I can't get to them for more info. Will try this weekend.

                  Leroy, THANKS!!!

I searched for Model 30 but found nothing. Was it an uncommon chute or were they not in service that long? I would think with all the Fws and Bf110s built there'd be more pictures and data on them.

The parachute in question looks nice, but if I remember well it has no chute in it ?

Good example foto's posted by Fur BTW..

                        Jos,
Couldn't get to it this past weekend, but promise I will do THIS weekend.

                          For Gene and Jos

I have finally invaded my storage area and pulled out some LW parachutes (at the request of Gene and Jos). Sorry, guys, to have taken so long.

First up is the standard LW backpack parachute (FL30245) used by both aircrew and pilots, with a metal backpan. The one shown lacks any FL designation, but does have some numbers and markings which are not standard, leading me to believe it may have been manufactured in France or some other occupied country. Standard LW design, quick release buckle, etc.

Ripcord. There are several styles of these, with this one having a slight outward curvature to assist in the pulling effort.
