Not actually a "hook" as such. The Stielhandgranate 15 had a hook, but a new system was developed for the M24. It consisted of a "Trageöse", as pictured on your grenade, and a "Tragefeder" that attached to the bayonet frog on the belt.
In a manual dated 1940 named "Waffentechnische Unterrichtsbuch" by Schmitt, the Trageösen was still part of the drawings of the grenade, but the text states that "Trageösen fällt bei Ausführung A fort" (Carrying eyelets will be discontinued with the A model). This is the only reference to separate "models" ever encountered in the original documentation from the era.Last edited by Bergflak; 03-19-2015, 05:50 PM.Comment

It is no longer known what the "Tragefeder" looked like. They were supplied in the same numbers as the Stielhandgranate 24, and came in the same boxes.
The picture below from 1 July 1932 shows two Reichswehr soldiers guarding the Reichswehrministerium in Berlin. They are both armed with Mauser rifles and two Stielhandgranate 24. The Trageöse and Tragefeder is clearly in use, even though details can't be seen.
In the Heeres-Verordnungsblatt Nr. 10 from 5 April 1933 it was announced that the Trageösen and Tragefeder would be discontinued altogether.Comment
