    Artillery Shell Casing & Unique Trench Art Ashtray

    Here is a rather cool piece of "trench art" in the form of an ashtray.
    This item must have been put together by one of our boys - Canadian or American - using a WW2 German shell casing; a few period German coins and...a German Cross/Deutsches Kreuz (Silver Class)! (I will post pictures of the award in the appropriate forum for viewing and comments).

    I know very little about ordnance and artillery shells, but the markings are clear enough for a fellow member to possibly identify, please and thank you.

            It look to come from a 8,8 cm flak shell maybe....

                    @John, the case numbe ris 6342St, which means this is the base of a steel ( "st") shellcase for the 10,5 cm leichte Feldhaubitze 18.

                    Other markings give info about factory that made it, the LOT number, and year of manufacture.

                        interesting to see the maker code "arz" as this maker code commonly being found on MG42 receivers as manufactered by them.

                          Thanks, Phil, and I now have found out that "ar" is the code for Mauser. Not sure about the "z".
