    Information on Trailers for 120mm PM-38 & 12cm GrW 42

    Hi Draoich

That is very interesting what you have found out.

I read in Ian Hogg's book 'The Encyclopedia of Infantry Weapons of World War II', that the difference between the German and Russian trailers was the track of the German one was increased in width from 51cm to 57cm. Also the pressed steel wheels were perforated not plain.

I do not know how reliable this information is.

In the Finnish manual I have it does not seem to give dimensions, but the drawings show plain disc wheels.

    The manual is dated 1941.

    Regards

    Richard

Russian websites as sources of information

      Hi Richard,

I have just discovered that by using the Russian version of the words '120 mm Mortar Carraige', which is "120 мм миномет Колесный ходу" and translates as '120 mm mortar wheel speed', quite a few interesting Russian sites become available. Unfortunately a lot of the entries are a little short in objective fact but the same can be said about english language websites!

There are drawings showing various models of WW2 120mm mortar carraige but sadly I have not yet found a chronology of development for these.

      Regards,
      Draoich

            Hi kobieras1939

That is a very nice transit box you have there, I have been looking for one for about a year now.

There was one on Ebay Germany about 6 weeks ago that sold for £160.00.

            Regards

            Richard

                      Hi Guys

Thought you might be interested to know that I now have a set of bipod legs for the mortar, thanks to another forum member.

These were found in the Ardenne about 20 years ago.

                      Regards

                      Richard

                        Hi Guys

After further research and a lot of help from a fellow forum member, we concluded that I had a Russian captured mortar reissued and used by the Wehrmacht.

Also since the last update, I now also have a baseplate, see attached picture. This was made possible with the help of 2 fellow forum members, what a great bunch of people we are.

                        Regards

                        Richard

                          Hi Guys

Thought I would update this thread.

Went to the Ciney show on the 28th April and picked up another 120mm mortar round and collected an ammo box from a friend and fellow forum member.

Still looking for the breech part of the mortar, transport caps for the rounds and any of the following fuzes. AZ41, Wgr Z 38st, Wgr Z 38C, 12cm Wgr Patr42 and a Stellschlussel fur AZ35K.

Can someone tell what colour the rounds should be and can you get stencils for the markings.

                          Best regards

                          Richard

                            Hi Guys

Have had made the missing internal parts for the ammo box and have fitted them today.

Attached pictures show the completed box.

                            Regards

I also have a box without the inner parts, do you maybe have some sizes or drawings for me so I can repair mine to.
