    Having carefully examined it numerous times, I believe that the attached photo shows a stockpile of about 1000 or so of these 17cm shells. While I have yet to confirm, based on the location of other photos that I believe were taken at about the same time, I believe that this shell stockpile may have been on the banks of the Rhine River at Koblenz (which was HQ of the post-WWI US occupation of portions of Germany). The original caption describes these shells as "spoils of war".

    Any thoughts/comments?
