I found this pic of a plastic can mine, it was offered to me by a dealer, but to be honest, it looks like it should have sandwiches in it, not explosives. Interesting nonetheless.

      Cheers,

      Craig.

PS - keep the mine puns coming please....
      @Hal:

the Mine you are showing is a very rare german one.
      It's a "Schützendosen Mine Kunststoff" or "Schü.Do.Mi.K".
very rare because it's almost impossible to defuze them.
Several versions exists, incl. one with steel upper part and Nipolit bottom, the one you are showing is the first type.

I made the NbK.39 inert myself, and trust me, as Adrian says igniter and expo get unstable with the years After exposing the material for air in 6.minutes the shi.. started to smoke and get warm, very warm. Never been so fast to empty a box as I was with it It went very well and no damage was done to the box or me

        Regards

        Carl

          Zunder,

Thanks for the information. Call me shallow, but I like to appreciate the aethestics of all the items I collect. Although I can appreciate it's rarity, it doesn't 'float my boat' and isn't an item I would add to my collection. If you are interested I am more than happy to put you in contact with the dealer. He is asking $350.00 for the Schu. D.Mi. K. If you are interested send me a PM.

          Carl,

Either you have a wealth of experience with munitions or you're mad. Sounds like you were lucky. What did you do with the powder/charge and how do you deact an igniter?

          Rgds,

          Craig.

I have to agree with Hal, defuzing this kind of stuff is not very smart, but telling about on the internet is even less smart.

The authorities are watching the internet as well...

Well, I have experience with demolition from my duty in the army (how do you think I know about the 6.minutes?) and the NbK wouldnt kill anyone if it went off, it would destroy the paint and the rest of the canister and make thick fog a couple of blocks around

PS! Im not afraid the authorities, you should be afraid if you have something to hide, I have nothing to hide Im one of the good guys

              Regards

                Hello,

I figured you must have known what you were doing, as no sane person would try this without previous experience.

Where did you find this in an activated state and how did you deactivate the igniter?

                Cheers,

                Craig.

I have no doubt you're one of the good guys...
But do you think the authorities will automatically think the same, especially after they read that you deactivated a piece of live ammo ?

A few guys in germany thought of them selves of being the good guys as well, they did nothing wrong, the police kicked in their doors at 6 o'clock in the morning anyway..
Their only fault was: talking on the Internet about weapons without specifically mentioning that they were deactivated.

The Zünder pictured is a friction igniter. It only produce a small flame, so it is fairly safe to just hold it with a plier and pull the ring. Doesn't even make any noise, just produces a small puff of smoke.

In regards to the "grenade"; there is a difference between a grenade and a smoke box. This device is considered a pyrotechnic and not ammunition here. The harm it is able to cause is in confined spaces (choking) and as a fire starter (due to the heat it omits). Better deactivated than live anyway! Things like this lying around "live" are accidents waiting to happen!

                        Hello,

I guess that's experience for you. If I was defusing it, I would assume the explosion would be close to an atomic explosion and run at the first sign of trouble.

                        Craig.

Heres my S.Mi.35 with the Z.Z.42 and S.Mi.Z.35 Firing Mechs, one of the 42's still has the brass cap, and the Can is full of shiny (yer right) ball bearings.

                              How about German bomb fuses?

If someone would tell me how to post the photos, I would put up some nice photos of aerial bomb fuses. I have about six. That is if anyone want s to see them.
