klarkon posted pictures of these in another thread that can be found here: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru....php?t=1039182, but questions have come up about them on Facebook, and got me wondering about a couple things.

I see from the verbiage on the diagram below that was posted by klarkon, the abbreviated name for these is LZZ G.A.C. I assume that stands for Langezeitzünder Glasampulle Aceton C???, but I cannot figure out what the "C" stands for. Does the A.C. together stand for Aceton?

On the British version of these, the A/C Delay Igniter Mk I, the "C" stands for Capsule, but in German that would be spelled with a "Z" for Zelluloid. I thought about "capsule" too, but in German that would be Kapsel. Anyone know what the "C" stands for, and did I guess the reset of the name correctly, as stated above?

My second question about there relates to the delay time for each. The two pictures below are from the page about these on the Lexpev site here: http://lexpev.nl/fuzesandigniters/ge...r1hrbrand.html.

It appears that the first example that he has listed as a 1-hour delay has a single white band painted on it, and the second example he has listed as a 4-hour delay has four white bands painted on it. Therefore the obvious assumption is that each white band represents one hour, and per the verbiage on klarkon's image above, the delay on these can be anywhere from 1 to 5 hours.

I guess I am just asking for confirmation of this, and if nothing else, I am putting it here as reference for others.

My Knowledge is limited here, but as far as I know, one ring is one hour delay. Not sure About nomencalura, definately an interesting Topic.

Thanks for the confirmation on the timing rings guys.

Regarding the nomenclature, hopefully someone will find a document that confirms the actual name. In the meantime, I wonder if the "C" could stand for Chemische (Chemical)?
