What is a more interesting mystery is the white visor with a Superior rank than the one attributed to him when he sunk ... ... Did he have a last minute promotion we don’t find records of? Could it be from his father or another family member?welcome.

As to the white visor, a quick web search identifies a Konteradmiral Meyer in the Kriegsmarine: Konteradmiral Hans Karl Meyer, who from February 1943 to April 1944 served as CO of the Tirpitz and from June 1944 to July (!) 1945 as Chief of Naval Operations of the OKM. See
