Who has seen this 'unofficial' KM-badge ('penguin') before?

    Dear all,

I recently acquired this 3-pieced KM-grouping from one of my pickers...both standard KM-badges are naturally fine....but what is the 'penguin'-badge?

I am pretty sure that it is one of the various 'inofficial' KM-badges but who knows exactly for what unit ie. ship it was used? I could not find any reference for it......

Thanks in advance for your kind assistance!

    Best regards,

    Coco

An identical enamelled badge is illustrated on page 77 in Gordon Williamson's book "Torpedo Los".
It is described as being a traditioins badge of the 1st U-Flottille.

Edit.On another forum the badge is described as being from the U-3024,and not the 1st U-Flottille ?

          Regards,Martin.

            The penguin badge...

            Dear Rene, Martin and Christian,

Thanks for your information guys! At least I am a bit further....I think that it is however not a post-war Bundesmarine badge: it came with the two other badges and I am pretty convinced that it is a WWII-period badge...

I hope that someone else knows a bit more....

            Thanks in advance!

            Best regards,

            Coco

                Hi,
I am still on the Bundesmarine thought......

                http://www.foerderverein-museums-sch...%20pinguin.jpg

Why should a S-Boat from the Bundesmarine should use a tradtion emblem from an U-Boat Flotille ?
And I got a couple of KM badges mixed with BM insignas....togehter in a lot means no proof.
                Regards

There are some differences in these.

                  1. Penguin is standing on a piece of ice on the one from the first post.
                  2. It looks that on BM ones penguin has a bit raised head

Not much, but the emblems usually follow the same details when reproduced.

BM could use those non-nazi emblems to keep a memory of their predecessors of which they could be proud of, and still to comply with the regulation as they didn't have swastika.

                  just my 2 cents ;-)

The Penguin is the 7 Vorpostenflottille badge.

For exemple, one picture from the V729:

                          Nice !

I am happy for Coco that I was wrong and it is NOT a Bundesmarine ! Nice catch
But does it mean that Grodon Williamson book is mistaken in this badge by atrributing it to U-Boat ?
                          Regards

Yes, Gordon Williamson made a mistake.

Great badge, really. Gordon made a mistake, but I am happy to see that we are finding new details on a daily basis.
