seems to be a good instrument, why late production? i see only a difference that the lower angle adjusting knob is made in aluminium, generally kind of white pvc knob
correct me if i am wrong

It looks OK to me also. It is a first pattern sextant and it does look like the knob is made of aluminum.

Here is a thread about sextants that might help:

Hello, looks as a correct model but I don't like the high serial number 27XXX, I had a sextant with number 24XXX together with a Carl Plath letter telling that it was made in august 1944, so IMO this one could be a post-war rebuilt sextant. I don't like the box. Sorry not for me.

I have carried and used an almost identical sextant for my whole maritime career. The only thing I lack is the paper inside the lid. Could you please please send me a high res scan of the document? I will change the numbers to accurately reflect my instrument. PM me please.

i checked my sextant, C-plath hamburg made, nr 9107 under marine eagle, and numbered 24349
              on a BLACK scale
regarding the box, i also does not give me a good feeling comparing to original fotos

                  Salut ,

I dont thk the box should be varnished and the plate looks afixed over the varnished surface .
The sextant looks ok except the alu knob.

missing the manufacturer on the bracket , the knob should be blak and white... it think it's 50 years.[Opps][Opps]

I Think that this serial number are postwar.
I have had a nice Plath sextant that was prewar bought by the Swedish Navy and that one have a serial number of 18241
