KM Pith Helmet Shields and Pith Eagle

    Hello,
I would like to share with you the new shields I got today along with the KM large pith eagle (I have had this eagle for some time). Now all I need is the silver example.

    Regards,
    Jody

      Hi Jody,

Very nice! I see the eagle shield is by Brehmer in 1941. The large pith eagle is also by Gustav Brehmer but I presume the tri-colour shield is another manufacturer.

      Best regards,
      ---Norm

        Hi Norm,
I think the tri-color shield is a Brehmer too. At least all of the ones I have seen looks like this one. I have not seen a maker marked one.

        Regards,
        Jody

          Hi Jody,

From this example, we know that by the next year, in 1942, Brehmer had switched to zinc with crimped pins for both eagle and tri-colour shield. I would have expected the 1941 tri-colour shield to be marked "G.B. 41" like the eagle shield and have similarly cut flat pins. But it's true I haven't yet seen an example -- I'll have to keep an eye out.

          Best regards,
          ---Norm

            KM Shields

            Hi Norm,
I would like to know too. I had a set a few years back that were removed from a pith helmet (no pins left) so I sold them. The tri-color shield was identical to this tri-color shield and the eagle shield was marked G.B. 41.

I am just guessing here. I love your zinc shields.

            Regards,
            Jody

Very nice Jody, I have both types of tri colour and it's good to think the unmarked examples are GB from 41.

Did you get these from the Estand? They were a good price if I remember correctly and I was tempted to buy them.

                Hi Jody,

You may recall this thread from 2009:
                http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=359843

"danpower" posted these shields there which I've cropped together for easier viewing. Above the KM GB41 Eagle shield (both obverse and reverse) is an unmarked KM tri-colour shield in a very similar texture and pin style which has the diagonal partition lines on the reverse (a feature also seen on the G.B.42 shield). As well there's a G.B.41 Heer tri-colour shield which has a very similar reverse and the similarly attached flatware pins. I suspect that unmarked aluminum KM tri-colour shield there is a "G.B.41".

                Best regards,
                ---Norm

                  Hi Jerry,
Yes, I bought them off of E-Stand. Nice KM shields are tough to find now.

                          What an educational thread!

Jody, hope you don't mind if I post this pair for Norm's evaluation as they came together many years ago, and appear to be by the same maker............
