Crossed flags looks to be a Stab patch. Staboffizier?

What a nice badge. Great find !!! Any markings on the back ?

The back is a bit of a mess. Looks to have been glued onto something at one time.
I can just make our a date at the bottom left. 18.5.23? If so that would mean the badge is earlier than I thought.


Also the chevron added later?

It is not the first time i show this badge/patch in this thread. But the last time i tried to get some info on when it was introduced in the German Navy and so on. After a bit of research i have found out that the badge was introduced to the Kaiserliche Marine in 1910 and was continued to be worn in the Reichmarine 1921-33. The badge is a Funker Sonderabzeichen ( Specialist badge for Radio operators )

Photographic evidence also shows that the badge was worn in the Kriegsmarine as well. ( See page 115 in Eduardos book " Deutsche Kriegsmarine " )
