While I dislike the term "Hate Belt" and prefer "Trophy" or "Souvenir" belt, I suppose that any of these terms will suffice. Not being sure where this posting belongs, due to the fact that it is all Kriegsmarine insignia mounted on a KM dress belt, I am posting it here for viewing.
It was a thrill for me to see and be able to acquire this at a local militaria show last week. Once I saw it, it literally screamed-out to me and I wanted it instantly.
As the story goes, it came from a veteran. In my opinion, this belt has not been recently made-up. The insignia mounted on it have clearly been there since WW2. There is some mothing to the reverse cloth lining of the belt and some tarnishing to the metal wire thread brocade, but the buckle itself is in excellent condition. Including the belt and buckle, there are a total of twenty items here:
1. KM officer's dress brocade belt with buckle
Obverse (left to right):
2. Fixed 2nd pattern national emblem w/rosette on a pin (as worn on the sailor's cap)
3. Rosette
4. Small gray zinc or aluminum pip
5. National emblem breast eagle of silvered alloy with pin-back as used by administrative personnel on the white summer jacket
6. Rosette
Reverse (left to right):
7. Gold metal career shoulder board device/insigne for a "Torpedo-Mechanikersmaat" (Torpedo Mechanic), as used by senior NCOs
8. National emblem 2nd pattern cap eagle of silver alloy (3-prongs)
9. Rosette
10. Pip of golden aluminum or alloy
11. Gold metal career sleeve insigne for a "Fernschreibmaat" (Teletypist)
12, 13, 14. Two-part buttons (size 1 = 2.5cm.) gold x 1 & silver x 2
15. Small (1st pattern?) national emblem cap eagle on a pin
16. Large 2nd pattern national emblem silvered (Admin.) cap eagle on a pin
17. Gold metal career sleeve insigne for a "Kraftfahrmaat" (Motor Transport)
18. Pip of golden aluminum or alloy
19. Rosette
20. Gold metal career shoulder board device/insigne for a "Zimmermansmaat" (Carpenter), as used by senior NCOs.
