    Kriegsmarine/Reichsmarine/Imperial/Bundesmarine Cap Tallies

The purpose of this thread is to provide research and information for collectors of cap tallies of the Kriegsmarine.

I hope this helps as a guide to collectors interested in this aspect of the Kriegsmarine.

    Best wishes,

    Jeff

Unusual, not really. He was part of Luftkreis IV, later Luftwaffenkommando See, German naval aviation, for 4 years. A lot of these ex-pilots and observers went into the U-boat arm.

Also, they saw action in Legion Condor.

Not sure how many managed to transfer into the Luftwaffe in 1939 when German naval aviation was disbanded.

interesting - but if he spends the first time of his military career in the naval-aviation branch, was he enabled to get the navy/army or the luftwaffe eagle to the long service decoration? (he is wearing the navy/army one on the pic, but is this correct?)

            Hi Christian,

His life is told in great detail in the book "Operation Drumbeat" by Michael Gannon. This was a bestseller here, not only a great story but finally told the truth about what happened to US merchant shipping on the east coast AFTER Pearl Harbor.

Anyway, I would recommend this book to you--came out in 1991 or so.

He was in the Kriegsmarine, never the Luftwaffe. So I am assuming he would naturally wear the appropriate Kriegsmarine devices on his ribbons and uniform.

Since I do not pass up a chance to show this muetzenband from my collection, here it is again.

Rare example from this naval organization.
