Anti magnetic mine paste on helmet.

I have a khaki coloured M-40 helmet with what looks like the anti magnetic mine past they used on the sides of tanks, smeared all over the outside of it as camo. Has anyone seen this before?.

Yes zimmerit was one form of helmet camo the Germans used on their helmet. It could be applied very thick or in a semi-thickness. After this it would be repainted in a green or fieldgray or in the most sought after by collectors, multi-colored.

Here is one w/ green and a splotch of white wash. Also it's original net and hooks...

            Thanks

Mine is applied quite thickly. It is a factory tan painted helmet, then they have painted over the top of the zimmerit a off tan khaki sort of colour. I'm told it was mostly troops involved with motorized units that did this as they had access to the materials?. It's a Quist made helmet, big size 59 liner and in near mint condition.

              Hello

              Andy great helmet.
Here is my zimmeritt fallschirmjäger helmet. In some places very thick. This was mostly done in Italy (monte cassion).
              Best regards

Bruce, combat helmets were not factory painted tan during the Third Reich, are you sure it's not a tan over the factory feldgray?

                  Never ever seen this before.....wow!
Probably a bad question to ask, but what is a fair price for an helmet coverd with zimmermit? (forget about the Fj, that one must be worth a castle or two!)

                  Cheers

There's no set price. It will, like all camo's depend on each individual helmet's character/looks and how everything has come together. Each is unique, some low, some very high.

Well it could have been I suppose, but it's painted tan on the inside as well. So they would have had to pull the liner out to do it?. You can see on the crown inside the lid, there is a finger swipe mark where someone has tested to see if the paint is dry. The outside paint could very possibly be the same paint as the inside, but it looks slightly different due to soiling?. I can't post photo's yet as I have a problem with my sofwear, resizing them. Would you like me to send you some photo's?.
