Guys. I noticed the auction on Ebay earlier today and saw that the seller was using my old photos. There is an original thread on this helmet in the FJ section where these pictures can be found or on my website. I contacted the seller and asked him about using my photos in his auction. He replied back that he would remove them when he got home from work. At about 3:30PM EST I noticed the auction had ended and was listed as sold. I think after I contacted him he might have gotten spooked and rushed to sell quickly before his scam was exposed. I meant to contact Larry and ask him if he knew where the helmet was currently as he was the person I sold it to but he sent me a link to this thread and it looks like that has already been discussed. So definitely a scam which is what I thought from the get go. If you look at that seller's history he sells a bunch of fake crap on Ebay and this helmet is definitely way out of the norm for him. Hope, nobody gets screwed over this. -Jeremy

Ahh right, sorry, just read the thread properly !!

Superb looking helm, but for $2500 !! I would have been far too sceptical to believe it was a legit deal

Like Robert said earlier $25 spent for being on here is money well spent.

                    Hi Bob,

Yes I know, I was not being critical of you, we all know how it is, we all get eBay fever when we see what we perceive as a bargain.

I have had my fingers burnt many times in the past on eBay, buying things, mainly cars and bikes sadly, that invariably were " too good to be true ! "

LOL. Thank God this helmet was saved!

On a serious note, if you want to make sure the helmet is in his possession, ask him for specific pictures of the helmet outside. Or something else more particular to see if he actually has physical possession of it. I doubt it. That helmet is in Poland or God knows where. Never to be seen near US shores again, unfortunately. A real shame for US collectors, really.

Update: The gentleman I sold the helmet to still has it in his collection in Poland. The helmet is clearly not for sale in Idaho, USA

Some "lessons learned" and collecting "risk management" for eBay transactions:
                                • "if it appears too good to be true, then it probably is"
                                • Trust your gut.
                                • If you think you are involved in an eBay scam, start a thread on the forum so others can be alerted. In this case we know of 3 people who almost got nailed. That means there are likely to be others out there as well.
                                • Don't pay on eBay via the "gift" PayPal option.
                                • Read the write up carefully. The seller mentions it did not have a decal, but the photos proved otherwise. I generally see a mistake in the write up of a fraudulent offering.
                                • Ask for additional photos via email. This way you also get the seller's email address in addition to "live" photos.
                                • Photos on dealers' sites should be watermarked.
                                • The photos of sold items should be deleted from a dealer's site.
                                • Be suspicious of any seller who volunteers to cut a deal and end the auction early, without the buyer asking first.
                                • Don't think you are the only one hoping for a good deal. These guys prey on that fact.
                                • Don't assume the seller is a naïve dummy and you are the smart one.
                                • Have a collecting network with people you can trust.
                                • And lastly........... don't buy from or sell to Larry F., or you might become a victim of a scam........
