Personally, I think it would have to have a hands on inspection to make sure. That red rust doesn't appeal to me. It appears (and this is my observation only) to reflect modern aging techniques. On an old helmet that has rust, it tends to be dark and hardened. This just doesn't have that look to me. Ron

Those new pics leave no doubts in my mind. Galvanized wire with old rust in spots where the coating has eroded. No "new" rust anywhere from what I see. I think you have a winner.Last edited by NARVIK1940; 09-16-2012, 05:42 PM.

Looks very promising, don't see any immediate red flags.
As mentioned above, galvanized wire also rusts when exposed to the elements. The zinc in it bleeds this white rusty material, which is common. After the zinc layer is gone, the steel under it will rust the usual red. This factor can help you with galvanized wire validation when you understand the aging of wire and element exposure throughout.
