I was browsing www.germanhelmetsinc.com and he states "Every original helmet that I have ever seen that displays the "1st pattern Rune decal has been a helmet that is maker marked "Q"." Does anyone have in their collections a 1st pattern Rune decal that contradicts this rule? Are there any rules?

Yes, there are rules but...that isn't one of them. Every factory-issue Q helmet should indeed have the 'Q' 1st pattern variant runes decal on it but there are indeed real helmets other than Q products which display first pattern runes decals.
The 1st pattern decals were in fact, the very first style of decal manufactured...even before the Quist company began producing helmets. -
Maybe he (Ken) just wanted to say that he had never seen a 1st pattern "Q" decal on another helmet then a Q-helmet. Otherwise it would not make sense

In fact, Kelly's new Volume 3 to his "SS Helmets- A Collector's Guide" series of reference books will deal with this aspect of collecting these rare helmets. I was speaking with him a few days ago and it should be out in a matter of a few weeks...he hopes.Comment
