Thought this was irrefutably proved a airbrush?
I mean the close up of the overspray and tape lines prove it .

I don't own the helmet anymore, there is a clear close up and elemental analysis, so I am interested to hear the hypothesis of how this was airbrushed

In this pic it sure looks like the edges of the runes have black overspray in places because the masking template was not perfectly tight to the shell. Some good macro pics will show it.

Without good close ups, it is hard to say. But I would agree with Jeff V. The one pic of the decal certainly looks like the rune on the left side has overspray typical of the champaign rune decal where the stencil didn't fit close to the helmet's shell.
