    Army or KM helmet??

How can one tell the difference between the Army eagle and the KM eagle on an M35 helmet? The books I have don't answer this question and I have not been able to locate anythig on the web either.

I know that the Army eagles are sivler and the KM eagles are golden but throughout time my understanding is that some Army eagles have turned to a golden color themselves and that is my question...how can you thell them apart when this happens.

I have had this helmet for a long time. It has aluminum buckle on the chin strap not steel and is marked EF66 or ET66, can't make it out. The helmet is a rough finish grey/green color. I'm leaning Army but hoping for KM.

It's an army eagle , the type of eagle has so far not been observed as existing as a KM and the golden tone is much too light. Probably an EF shell.

This photo shows the deep golden tone and the typical ridge of a KM decal. (as expected on an ET M35 shell).

I see what you mean by the difference in golden tone of the two eagles but you lost me when you mentioned the "typical ridge". I think you mean the sides of the shield? Yes the shell is an EF.
I was most confident that it was an early M35 but someone mentioned to me that they thought it to be a KM so came some doubt as to what it might be or what it is.
Here is the rest of the helmet. What I like about it, other than it being an unmolested virgin piece is the fact that it's named.

****It's not just named on the shell but you can see that the soldier also wrote his name on the liner too****

                    Greetings,

Based on the pictures I'm also leaning towards Heer.

                    Cheers,

                    Asper

The ridge is that black line that follows the shape of the eagle.

EF Heer always are more or less toned. Here's an EF M42 with an even darker tone then yours , still it's a Heer.

agree with Frank's comments, that's a pocher eagle commonly found on heer NS and EF shells, the KM variant of that decal never been seen or proved to exist.
                        That's why it'a a toned heer IMO
                        ciao

Thank you very much for the explanation on the ridge Deathshead. Now I understand what you were refering to. Also to the others who commetted.
All in all, even as an Army it's still a keeper, at least for now.
