    The Max

Just returned home from the Max late last night so I have'nt read any of the new posts thus far so hopefully I'll have time today.
I think the show was a good one although there were not alot of good helmets there, but if you were looking for a nice SD army or Luft you would have no trouble, the prices for a decent SD army or Luft all were around the $500 mark. A few deals were there if you looked but the best helmets were gone by Friday. There was a "minty" SD KM still there Sat. when I left and I think Brian Maederer had a couple of real SD SS helmets still there Sat. I talked to Willi there and he mentioned no significant para helmets there either. But it was good to meet several collectors from the forum I had not previously met (although in some instances it took me a minute to remember who a few were, sorry) but the Max for me is to see other collectors I don't see all year long normally...I had a good time.
Several extremely rare uniforms were being offered there as well, a real SS para smock and probably the rarist WWII U.S. uniform. A camo U.S. M42 paratrooper jacket, many collectors have never held an original of either..

My friend John Burnett picked up a screamer camo that I'll share in another thread a little later, I'd say the best helmet sold at the show.
I picked up a nice SD Luftwaffe camo that was stuck in the corner of the show I'll share a photo of as well. John Hodgin took a picture of me holding it outside the Max so I'll let him post that, the condition on it is very nice..
If you took pics at the Max feel free to share them here..

        Hi Perry,

As Peter said it was nice to meet you in person at this year's Max show. It's always nice to put a face to the name. Peter...sorry I didn't get to meet you though. I did look and ask around for you but never managed to find you. Perhaps next time.

As Perry mentioned, there were a few good SS helmets but only a very few. All the rest were repros.

        Cheers,

I would love to see some pics of the show as wel of your treasures you picked up. Seems like you had a great time...any 'new fakes' or ' faker-updates' noticed?

                Hello everyone,

Here is Perry and his helmet, a real handsome addition IMHO Perry, good eye!

Perry and I had a great dinner with Tony Ganz, Mike Heuer and several other friends. Mike told us about the WWII flying experiencies of a German veteran friend of his. Mike's friend was a Me 262 pilot. This alone made for fantastic dinner conversation! Thanks Mike.

Peter, I'm sorry I never saw you! I was also hoping to run into Jack Melvin and many others.

                Regards,
                John

Nice picture of Herr Voss. He was a very gracious book signer. He even allowed me use my German on him! And his book is very readable and interesting--especially his descriptions of the war in Finland.

And if any of you ever get a chance to look at a few helmets with Perry, you'll enjoy the educational experience!

I saw some exceptional helmets at the show. A few with wire, nets, burlap, snow camo, medic's and some very nice camos. It was nice to meet Perry and Skip. I missed Darryl too. Did see Larry M., John B., Peter S. Brana R. and some other advanced helmet guys. I convinced Skip to sell me a very nice FJ press release photo of a FJ MG42 3-man team sporting draw string splinter covers that he had found there.. Here is some of what Bill Shea had to offer. I really think the Max turns up some nice pieces. Not sure if this photo shows much of that super Luft DD M35 with wire that Bill got out of a museum. Note the very rare medic's helmet and the one with the splinter Heer cover in the second picture.

Also met Jack Melvin, Del P., Bob K. and a few others for the first time. Amazing as to how many guys I didn't run into, considering I spent 4 nights there.

Sure thing Joe, just carry a couple of grand with you

Also of note I only seen one 2nd pattern USMC cover there that I thought could be real, and it was a display only table..
I wish now I had taken pics of that minty KM...I also noticed the WWII U.S. helmets are getting very pricy now..I also noticed a more than usual influx of fake SS helmets being brought to the show by collectors to sell..

Pricey and questionable. I saw a lot of what appeared to be post WWII U.S. liners being offered as WWII. And a lot of questionable paint jobs. There were very few M1 helmets that looked 100% OK, and those were too expensive. That's a scary trend for those of us who also collect US helmets.

                              Great pics!

I see a police shako with the brush on shelf! Any body remember
how much and who had it?

                              Thanks
