      Yes it is Italian! I didn't have seen the Medal....and now I can confirm that is Italian.

        I forgot to mention that is from the Alpini.
        In which region did you have find it?

        It could be from the Julia, Tridentina, or Cuneense Alpini Divisions....

        Apparently there is a number in the small circle of the Eagle claws...Can you read it?

          We were in Voronezh.
          About a medal I have found a sole with thorns from mountain boots.
          Yes there by small letters it is written Galla, and the Roman figures 18.

                                All 25 pages of this theme are very interesting. I am digging in KURLAND and once I was very surprised when I found ID tag of Inf.Reg. 178. This regiment was destroyed in Stalingrad, but it seems, that the owner of this ID tag escaped. The ID tag was found on the last positions of Inf.Div. 121 not far from LIBAU, where Germans throved away some of their ID tags and awards.
