Well to finish off this little story, I kept the helmet, it was only 400 euros and it looks great in my display cabinet, so im happy.
And about the interesting fact brought up about spray helmets during the war. I collect German war photos also, and in one of my photos, a German RAD man is standing beside the back of a lorry, circa 1941, with a small handheld spray gun, hes spraying small damage to the trucks paint work. And I was thinking, if German soldiers or repair crew still had access to this type of simple equipment later in the war, it is would be very easy to spray paint up a helmet in any colours they wanted, and the spray would have been compromised of relatively fine particles ?
    Just an interesting idea!

The soldier spray painting the SMALL damage remindes me of a German friend I have. After spending a day on the lake, the first thing he would always do is spray paint the propeller on his boat .

He seems very sincere, hes from the normandy part of france, his father was a farmer in the region, the dad picked it up from a dead german soldier on the side of a road, he kept it in a cupboard in the bar for the last 30+ years with his farm tools. He doesnt deal in military at all and seems to be very sincere?
Maybe it's true but I would like to have one euro for everytime I heard this kind of story...I would be millionaire!!!

im thinking i might get a refun on this one :-( the seller is very sincere and kind and if he didnt know this was a fake, i believe him, but it was a interesting helmet to learn from, who ever created it, was very good at making fakes, but iv slighly cheered myself up, i bought a nice real m40 with original liner and chinstrap Q66 for (300 euros), iv attached a picture for your enjoyment, i know its not a m35 dd or something but its honest and i want to start collecting with a good honest stahlhelm foundation :-) Cheers for all the info !

Hmm. Here's my big "wait-a-minute". If the camo on the outside is still in such good shape, what happened to the paint on the inside of the helmet? Actually, you've got a better view on this than we do. How is the paint on the inside of the helmet? Still there in places?

there are still good traces of the army gray green on the inner liner and unde the liner of the helmet.
I was catually wondering myself, how this was faked, it was done clearly with alot of care, there are is a layer of the original army green under the camo and the camo has no smell "like it was applied recently" ?
And also, im asking myself, why did the seller not put in a original liner and chinstrap, he could have left it to a open auction and it would surely have made more than 400 euros, than the buy it now price, i got it for??? curies ????

ok i wanted to make myself feel a little better after this camo problem, so i bought a nice m40 single decal Q66 which is nice and original (right helmet on picture above) and i bought another nice m40 SE62 today also.
I think 2 helmets are enough for 1 day and a good start to my collection, i also have lready 2 nice original m35 double decals and 1 nice original m40 no decals.
When i have all these guys together in a week or so, ill take some photos, should look good.
Cheers and thanks for your help.

I would check this thread first where the SE camo has been discussed. (and was shot down as post war) Camo's are a minefield and I won't recommend a beginning collector starting his collection with them , just my opinion. I would ask for a refund again.

1600 Euros is a lot of money (talking about the camo wired SE 62) for a questionable helmet....
I would have prefer a legit one, for sure.
