M35 Overpaint Camo With Rubber Band

Here's mine. you can barely see it in the picture but there's areas of dried rubber going around the center of the helmet. Does anyone know where these rubber bands came from? They are in a lot of period pictures ant they're not innertubes.

Most were rubber camo bands were tyre inner tubes cut into various thicknesses. Pete
