        I think the rubber looks like a deteriorated 'Weck-ring' (food conserved in glass jars). Typical red color. Can other (European) collectors confirm this?

                A very cool helmet. During the war, rubber bands were very common, but not so any more... Here is my ground dug one. Note that the rubber is aso red. For more discution about inner tub colors, see here: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...highlight=tube

                        Here's mine. you can barely see it in the picture but there's areas of dried rubber going around the center of the helmet. Does anyone know where these rubber bands came from? They are in a lot of period pictures ant they're not innertubes.
