I think the rubber looks like a deteriorated 'Weck-ring' (food conserved in glass jars). Typical red color. Can other (European) collectors confirm this?

Here's mine. you can barely see it in the picture but there's areas of dried rubber going around the center of the helmet. Does anyone know where these rubber bands came from? They are in a lot of period pictures ant they're not innertubes.Last edited by stahlhelm1940; 02-22-2007, 11:03 AM.
