I posted a liner not long ago which most believed was good (although the pictures were bad). I thought I'd post the 35 pattern helmet it was out of and ask your opinions what to do wtih the parts.
Here's the story. This helmet was purchased by someone I know about 12 years ago. it was a DD winter cammo but the finish had been sanded to make it glossy and smooth. Supposedly the veteran saw the other helmets at the show were smooth and decided to sand his. Anyway I ended up with it as a large package deal and I took it to a couple of shows where noone took any interest. I didn't know about this forum yet. I sent a photo to Marcus Bell and he said the decals were 70s fakes and that the exterior cammo was not good. I decided to take the bogus exterior paint off and see if original paint was underneath. Anyway the paint looks like an undercoat or something The exterior and interior both flat grey. Look at the picture and see. This surely isn't original paint underneath is it? It looks too thin. The shell is a large FS 66 -- batch D236 I believe. By chance recently I picked up an original size 66 42 pattern shell on the salty side but for sure with original paint.
What to do with all this? Should I stick the liner in the 42 pattern shell? Have someone repaint the 35 pattern as a rebuild? Or just sell off the parts?
