I have been offered a helmet, the chinstrap fitted looks to be original and is marked;
gxy
42
The buckle is aluminium and the wear to the strap is good, the outer surface is black and the inner blown. All good so far. However, the outer surface of the strap has two indented lines, one at each of the outer edges of the strap, running its full length.
My question is; what is the opinion of helmet collectors as to the originality of such examples? I know some people don't like them or consider them to be a variant of fake, but I'd like to understand where this info came from. Is there a trusted reference source which states that this is a repo strap?
Please someone point me in the right direction.
