    MAX Show Polizei Helmet

I attended this year's MAX show in Indianapolis and spotted a Polizei EF64 M35 with a bordered decal during dealer setup on September 28th. The helmet had a 1939-dated reinforced aluminum liner band as shown below. I found out later that the seller, Bob Burden, sold the helmet to Ken Niewiarowicz.

Ken N. listed this helmet on his web site (www.germanhelmetsinc.com) several days after the MAX ended. Below is his description:

Item # 357: NEW! M35 double decal combat police helmet with bordered decal

This helmet has two rare features. First the police decal is a bordered style that is normally found on later M40 helmets. The second feature is the dome stamp which is rarely encountered on EF marked helmets. The helmet shell is maker/size marked EF64 on the inside rim at wearers left. There is some paint loss at the dome but overall the smooth texture paint remains evenly colored and attractive. The decals show excellent detail with minimal damage. The wartime steel liner band is maker marked and dated 1940. The dome stamp is dated 1939 so it is evident that this helmet was assembled during the transitory period before the full adoption of the M1940 specs. The leather of the liner is worn but intact with no missing fingers. Overall and very nice example of a rare helmet. ** SOLD **

The second photo, taken from germanhelmetsinc.com, shows the same helmet with a 1940-dated steel liner band.

In summary, I saw this helmet at the MAX with a 1939-dated reinforced aluminum liner band and it was sold on germanhelmetsinc.com with a 1940-dated steel liner band.

I have been thinking that Ken is a correct dealer, anyway at this point his explanations are essential.
However if you read carefully the text, in any way is mentioned that the rivets are untampered.

In a similar vien, I bought a M 35 DD Heer from member HJP, who stated he got it from Ken. I baought it as an original, and sold it to T. Kibler as such.
Tom then advised me that the liner was a 44 dated replacement, This was a 2600 helmet. AT this date, neither HJP nor Ken N has corrected the situation.
Nor have either, to my knowledge, attempted to.

This doesnt look good.if this is true then thier is also fraud going on amongst dealers if this helmet is swapped out and the buyer not advised then shame on the seller, but as said we have to hear the other side.
if this is the case then thankyou erich for bringing this to our attention.

Look at pictures 3 and 4. In #3 the split rivet seems to be loose. In #4 the split rivet seems to be snuggled up nicely to the helmet. Also the rivets in # 3 and #4 don't appear to be the same rivet. Hmmm?

This fish stinks from the head down. First the SS helmet a couple months back, and now the Police helmet.

Jerry has a point. The paint even looks different on the rivets. One has paint missing and in the next it doesnt
