I attended this year's MAX show in Indianapolis and spotted a Polizei EF64 M35 with a bordered decal during dealer setup on September 28th. The helmet had a 1939-dated reinforced aluminum liner band as shown below. I found out later that the seller, Bob Burden, sold the helmet to Ken Niewiarowicz.
Ken N. listed this helmet on his web site (www.germanhelmetsinc.com) several days after the MAX ended. Below is his description:
Item # 357: NEW! M35 double decal combat police helmet with bordered decal
This helmet has two rare features. First the police decal is a bordered style that is normally found on later M40 helmets. The second feature is the dome stamp which is rarely encountered on EF marked helmets. The helmet shell is maker/size marked EF64 on the inside rim at wearers left. There is some paint loss at the dome but overall the smooth texture paint remains evenly colored and attractive. The decals show excellent detail with minimal damage. The wartime steel liner band is maker marked and dated 1940. The dome stamp is dated 1939 so it is evident that this helmet was assembled during the transitory period before the full adoption of the M1940 specs. The leather of the liner is worn but intact with no missing fingers. Overall and very nice example of a rare helmet. ** SOLD **
The second photo, taken from germanhelmetsinc.com, shows the same helmet with a 1940-dated steel liner band.
In summary, I saw this helmet at the MAX with a 1939-dated reinforced aluminum liner band and it was sold on germanhelmetsinc.com with a 1940-dated steel liner band.
