I don't think any of the repros have gone to the oval holes yet. If you see that, it's probably a good sign.
There were many different variations that were peroid made by the many different manufactures. I'm still seeing stuff I've never seen before.
Best to become familure with the common fakes that are available and just don't buy one that looks like any of those.
If you get to the point that you have seen a number of real straps in hand, you can spot a fake from a mile away without ever seeing the buckle.
Best advice if you just need one is to be patient and watch estand. Good straps come up frequently. You just have to check in often and don't hesitate.
