    Chinstrap OK? Opinions sought

I bought this off eBay from a collector/dealer from Woon, RI. It passes the "look and feel" test, but I thought I'd run it by some Forum members to make sure. Is this authentic?

    Thanks for your help.

Looks good to me! Thats an original buckle. Its one I don't see too often, but is a genuine example. Its thinner than most we see, and that can throw people off. I have the exact buckle in my collection.

IMO not problem with this chinstrap. Large gray painted buckle found on original helmets

                    Paul, Edouard, Stefano, et al,

Thanks. I really appreciate your opinions.

The chinstrap supposedly came from a damaged M-42, so the identification of this as a late-war variant would be spot on assuming the provenance story is true.

                    I paid $86 for this. I don't think that's too much.

I bought this to go with the M-35 Army DD that Stefano offered up a while back. I would have prefered an earlier strap, but a later style strap is at least plausible for the helmet.

                    Best Regards,

                    Mark

Mark, I think you did fine. Use it for your DD, and before long you will probably have a nice M42 to mount it on. Then you can begin the hunt for an early strap. Did you see the early strap listed on the Estand yesterday? I was #2 in line. I just missed it Oh well, they do come up every now and then.

                        chinstaps

                        Paul,

Yeh, I saw that chinstrap and would have bought it myself if I had seen it sooner. That would have been a better strap for an M-35. Good chinstraps are very hard to find. The ones that appear on W-A seem to sell within minutes of being posted and the ones on eBay are mostly fakes. I already bought and returned one that turned out to be a good reproduction on close inspection.

By the way, if anybody wants to trade an early chinstrap for a well used later type, I'm interested!

                        Regards,

                        Mark

                            Adjustment holes on long strap

Greetings forum: I have heard that all original chinstraps have 13 adjustment holes on the long strap. Is this correct or are there various amounts according to manufacturers design,as with some buckles . I remember a discussion on the shape of the holes in the leather and which shape was correct. The result was inconclusive as to round vs. elongated. Thank you all!
                            Sincere Regards
                            Zeke
