I have never found any phtographical evidence that supports the use of the palm tree on a helmet, seen a lot of fakes, none that ever convinced me!!

What about the DRK helmet in Kurtz's AFRIKAKORPS book? There is also a poor looking FJ lid and another lid in the Scipion and Bastien Afrikakorps book.

tan camos
It seems quite reasonable that DAK soldiers painted the DAK logo on their helmets. They certainly marked other equipment with it, and there was no doubt considerable pride associated with that logo. So why not?
However, calling a tan helmet a DAK is a stretch, I believe. Tan helmets can be found from just about every theater of operation. I had one I found in the woodwork in Norway, which I have since sold. I have seen them with vet provenance from the Continent as well. Ordinance tan was commonly used on vehicles outside of Africa and the Mediterranean. Tan (some lighter, some darker) base was often used on so-called Normandy tricolor camos. I am no paint expert, so Gulli can tell us more about this. Nor am I a DAK expert or any other kind of expert, so this is just my two cents.

This is the best I can do, photographs of the images in the two books. First is the DRK from the Kurtz book.
Thanks,
