Well, I just got my first WW2 camo. It is a big M42 tri-color camo, in excellent condition. The stamp is very faint but it has to be a 66, I cannot read the maker's letters. There is the remains of the soldiers name painted just along the edge of the liner. Rivet pins are all intact and untouched.

I have seen at least two others much like it here in the past month or so. I am no expert, but I would not say this is a typical "Normandy" style camo scheme or colors. To me (and my modest experience) it looks like a later war camo. I only say this because it looks like the type of paint (colors) used on the later war camo for vehicles.

I appreciate any comments or thoughts on this. I can post more pics if anyone wishes.

It does have a slightly funny look to it. The reason is the original owner applied WD40 to it years ago.<o></o>

Actually Glenn I've shown concerns for very few helmets shown. Of late the parade of decaled Manions helmets are not "obviously original" and I stated as such. With the exception of the grey lined heer my impressions are that the decals are fake. All the liners look suspect. It's not a place for a begining helmet collector to shop. That's my opinion.

Romain was asking for opinions on a DD Heer that unfortunately had been clear coated in the past. The asking price of $850 was too much in my view. That's my opinion.

With this helmet photo #6 is why I stated I'd like to hold it. As Bob agreed it does look "funny" and gave a reason for it's appearance.

If helmet discussion is frowned upon what are we doing here ?
