Hello Semovente, nice original sword, but not a mod.1871, that actually looks like this:
        http://www.swordforum.com/forums/sho...s-and-comments

        https://sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/t...-sabre-pattern

        https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item...troopers-sword

In my opinion what you have is a more common mod. 1888 officer sword in use by all arms of the italian army except Bersaglieri, Carabinieri and cavalry.
This kind of sword is still in use, but now with republican attributes.

Sometimes you can identify the corps of the former owner by the specific engraving on the blade. In other cases offficers used to personalize their swords with initials or full names. This tradition is still going on.
During my military service when I was commisioned I ordered my sword with both initial on the pomel and full name on the blade

ciao this is a model for officer of cavalry and veterinary and also for mounted artillery.
you can see it from the guard at four "else" and smooth handle.
(I do not know if I have translated correctly in English)

Mmh, I'm afraid Passo Stanco has right, at least partially! The handle is smooth, while the infantry type is fingers'-shaped. I didn't note this detail!

But I'm still thinking it's not cavalry... Cavalry swords should be curved!
So this can be an artillery sword, mod.1888, like this one:

                        https://www.kijiji.it/annunci/collez...alia/118317208

If cavalry, the decorations on the blade should show two crossed cannons somewhere

Sorry, I meant to say "if Artillery", of course
