Dear forumites,
I am quite pleased to show my newly acquired Italian "brevetto di pilota". This badge does have a hallmark on the reverse: F.lli Breccia ROMA. The design of the eagle is particularly well done with a very high quality detail. Notice also that the gilting is covering all this silver piece, with the exception of the blade of the fascio littorio (which translates in English to the Lictorian Fasces).
The symbol consists of a bundle of rods symbolizing strength in unity. The ax blade meant the administration of required discipline and sentence by the old Roman Magistrates since this was the symbol of justice in Roman courts.
I think that it is an hollow constructed piece, since it is quite light. This badge is to date before 1943 since both symbols of the monarchy and of the Fascist regime are shown on the badge. ¨
