        Hallo Joe

        Well done

Now to complete your nice grouping you have to add the correct ribbon to the war medal (two bars) and to use the rainbow ribbon you own for the inter-allied medal.

          Thanks!

What exactly do you mean by "two bars"?

For some reason my great grandfather or another family member swapped the ribbons. I know it's incorrect, but I think I want to keep it this way...

            Ohhh! I understand now!

This vendor has a few of the bars for sale... However, I fear they are not authentic. What do you think?

              Hallo Joe

This is hard to say because these bars were produced over a long period of decades for the vet use

In my opinion for that price

Thanks for being here for me, enorepap. My nonna will be proud to see the medals grouped together.

I went ahead of purchased the 1917, 1918 bars, and a replacement Italian tricolor ribbon for the 1915-1918 medal. I am starting to think that the medals should have their correct ribbons after all.

The vendor wanted 10euro to ship each item... I asked if he could combine shipping charges... so we shall see.

                Thanks again!

                  Ciao enrepap!

A hard-copy of my bisnonno's service record arrived in the mail today. It includes a second page to the service record that I've never seen before!

The ink stamp that they used was double struck/ smudged. Can you help me with a translation, please?

The dates on this second page seem to be the 1930s... and I see tell-tale Roman numerals which signifies the years since Mussolini took power.

                  THANKS!

                    Hallo Joe

The inscription says that he was transferred to the list 71b (strength of the infantry personnel on leave) of the military district of Catanzaro in September 1930, following the abolition of the military district of Castrovillari. The signature for the control of the rightness of the acts is of Captain Rocco Vitola, Mobilization Officer of the District.

                    Best regards

Thanks! Does this mean that even though he fulfilled his service in World War I, as last as 1930 he could still be called up to serve in the military?

                        Hallo Joe

                        Yes

According to the Act on the recruitment of the Army (Royal Decree of August 5, 1927 - Year V - n. 1437, published in the Official Gazette of August 19, 1927, n. 191) a soldier, after the period of active service, was included in the position of "unlimited leave" but he had to be ready to reenter the Army, if called for mobilization or training by displaying posters in public or by shipping precept postcards, and he ceased from all service obligation when he was 39 years old.

Oh wow... so my bisnonno could have been called back into the army up until 1936 or so!

                          THANKS, enorepap!

Yes, but only in theory because I do not think he has ever been recalled to active duty after WW1.

                              Congratulations on your video
