The second helmet I every bought. The liner is completely shot (and I believe has some human hair remaining inside).

Not for awhile. The helmet is back home, and I will not be back for a few months. Luckily I did not pay too much for the helmet, anyways. The liner is in rather rough condition, comparable to the helmet itself. I will once I have it back in my hands.

            Original Italian Helmets

I have been trying to obtain information on original Italian helmets. What I have found is the split rivets are original W.W. Ii also the = stitching in the rear of the liner. The leather liner with the leather gormets on the holes for the tie string . Now I wanted to know if the helmets with the metal gormets for the liner draw string are also W.W. II or just a post war , or is their a early version of helmet and latter. Any where I can obtain this information. Thanks

*The stitching in the rear of the liner could be: = , X , II, Z
*The metal gormets on the holes for the tie string could be late WWII or also postWWII. It is known however that some liners of the '30s bore the metal gormets, while the most part had no metal gormets.

BUT, to detect a WWII period liner and a post-war liner you've to look:

*The type of leather, that in the post-war specimen is very soft, dealt with wax,and
of yellowish colour. Generally Z stitching on the rear.
*The type of chin-strap. Even if the most part of the post-war M.33s have webbing
chin-strap, old leather chin-straps of the WWII period have been used till exaustion.
The new webbin' chin-strap have generally a trapezoid ring on the steel harness of
                    the helmet.

                      Let me add 3 points:

                      1. There are also ww2 era liners without any reinforcement stitches in the rear. These are pretty rare.

                      2. The felt on ww2 era liners is of orange color, whilst post ww2 felt is more yellowish.

                      3. ww2 era m33 for second line troops and civic units sometimes sported a canvas chinstrap. However the width of the strap was inferior, the material and the weaving pattern different to the post war straps.

I agree with the three points added from Tankredi. I simply answered the points

                          Italian Helmets

Thank you very much for all the help. This information helps very much. I have one of the four vent helmets with the cheap canvas chin strap of World War Two vintage , it is much different then the post W.W. II helmets canvas chin straps as stated . I still see people selling these post war helmets with the canvas chin strap as Africa. I was not sure on the different version of vents/rivets this helps. I have several helmets with almost a white leather liner , any information on this type liner. thank you all again for the great information.

The four vents helmets were not military, but issued generally to firebrigades
and civilian protection. These may have also a webbin' grey-green chin-strap.
Wrong information: these cannot ever be considered as 'Africa issued' helmets...
Your helmet with white liner maybe of Royal Navy origin, or also Navy post WWII
                            origin.PaoloM

.the Paracadutisti and X Rgt Arditi stencils were for M.42 para helmets.
