    Help to ID This Officer

I come to the collecting community and ask you all to work your magic and decipher this officer's name. Naxos is a master at reading these name tags and hopefully he'll offer his opinion.

I'll post more pictures later, but I obtained a minty waffenrock for an Oberleutant with Artillery Regiment 56. The numerous loops for his medal bar indicates he must have had many awards.

interesting surname, I read: Vahlkampf - a more remote possibility is Dahlkampf

      .

Vahlkampf is a match to an Artillery officer who made that rank and was a older supplementary officer (E) with Inspection in WK V (Breisgau). In 1939 he was a Hauptmann (E) in the same office. He would wear the uniform of his last active posting or the legacy unit for the last unit/unit he served with the longest.

Johnny - Can you provide a first name and perhaps more information on Vahlkampf?

            Thank you

Hi Mark, because he was a supplemental officer there is not a lot of information for him with unpublished and the two published rank lists, basic sources or on-line. I have early unpublished lists that have first names (later ones normally do not) but he is not listed as an E officer in 1935 so probably was brought back in when the Heer expanded. He made Oberstlt. 1.9.42. At that time he appears to have been reinstated as a regular officer and is not listed and KIA so there probably is a service file in NARA.
