Nice looking tunic! Looks tailor made with the lower pockets? Are they "false" pockets?

                  Best regards

Hi Jason, it is an "old style" (pre war) tunic. These tunics were fully lined with slash pockets on the bottom like yours. Nice original.

It was my impression that the issue M36's had the pleated lower pockets?

                          Best regards

                            Hi

It look like a tunic that was modified for walking out purposes as has a parade quality eagle like my pioneer M-36 that I posted on Sunday. Could it be possible that the soldier got a costal artillery tunic and modified it for Army use? ( the lower pockets look like the ones seen in Costal Artillery tunics). It look original to me.

It is not an M36, it is a "Dienstrock neuer Art" (New style service tunic). This was neither a walking out tunic nor a field tunic, but rather a day-to-day service tunic of the prewar period circa 1937. Yours is a very fine example, I do not think it has been modified. I believe I have seen these with piping down the front but they may have been made with or without piping. The old style service tunic had more buttons on the front, like a Waffenrock. The breast eagle is not "parade quality" but is the standard NCO eagle of the prewar period. Your tunic would look very nice displayed with a belt and a NCO visor cap. Cool item.
