did the Police visor hat come with the tunic and was that the original chinstrap on the hat ?

would be interesting to know what civilian rank and specialist training in the police, this unteroffizier held ? i.e detective-sargent, fingerprints, forensics ?

It is also important to point out that such an unteroffizier would not hold that rank forever. It might only be a year ?. Once his professional training is completed, he would be sent to officer training school if the shortages of the war years permitted his absence.

Similar situation in the Imperial German Army, a conscript with 2 to 3 years training could become a surplus corporal (überzählige Unteroffiziere (Reservists)) . On absolving his primary recruit training, may be he was aspiring to become a Reserve-Officer ? This would mean further training and courses to qualify and achieve suitability for promotion to the officer rank. May be he is continuing to receive further specialized instruction, with the opportunity to advance further in rank upon completion of that training.

I will check my boards tonight. From memory, the calvary "Unteroffizier" is a sew-in board and the medical "Oberfeldwebel" is a button in board,

Yes the uniform is the highest quality you can order made by a tailor who was the personal tailor of Prince Bernard of The Netherlands pre-war (Royal court appointment), so interesting to see a lowly Unteroffizier with such a high quality garment.
Would have cost a lot! A general's uniform surfaced on WAF from the same tailor (Maison Jordi in Amersfoort). The cap was never changed over to officer candidate status (with silver chin cord...) always had a plain leather chin strap matching the rank.
This Feldgendarm remained an Unteroffizier for the duration of his service in occupied Holland as far as I know.
    (based on Wasti records)

Hat and officers style riding breeches originating from the same tailor, all custom made in matching Dutch gabardine.
A feldgedarmerie official could order and wear something very extravagant to reflect his authority while on occupation duty I guess!
Duty stations: 2 different "Kommandantur" postings in 2 Dutch towns. (Amersfoort and Den Helder). His open collar "BüroAnzug" !

Interesting indeed, an unteroffizier with narrow officer type shoulder boards, wearing a uniform of the quality a general could order and wear ???

All seems to say something about his wealth or position in society ???. A bit like the one year volunteers of the Imperial German army who purchased their own uniforms with officer quality Pickelhaubes despite being reservists of basic private rank in many cases. However, the uniform they wore reflected their wealth, family postion or professional training in society. Many of them were also destined to become fully qualified reserve officers further down the track,

      Chris

p.s. both the calvary Unteroffizier narrow board and medical Oberfeldwebel narrow board that I have access to, are button-in types with the straps for wear on the field uniform, They can thus be removed with ease. I will take some photos and send them to you so you can post them on this thread. Looks like I do not have a sew-in version of this type of narrow officer type NCO board

#1 is possibly for Panzerabawehr Abt. 32; I don't know of a Panzer unit with the #32

Did these pieces come from a veteran's estate?
May be the number "32" is connected to specialist or technical training ?

Post number 16 shows nicely how these NCO-3rd Lt boards match the size of an officers lieutenant's board,

Here some examples from 90thlight. Great examples!

These medical ones are definitely more prominent...Basically doctor students, an interim rank until they pass their final exam..."A" cypher or the Doctor's academy.
Internship programs in active units allowed them to get field experience in field units/field hospitals (aspirant doctors_ wearing similar NCO straps (but without the "A").
Basically officer candidates "Unterartz" status, wearing such straps along with officers collar tabs, officer belts and officer cap cords.
