Hello Ron and Glenn,

I have always believed these eagles to be original. There is even one posted in UNIFORMS AND TRADITIONS OF THE GERMAN ARMY Vol2 page 67. Maybe I just got lucky and got two good ones sold as repros. In all actuality I believe that is what happened!

I posted shots of the backing material off these eagles because the material matched the backing material one a few signal blitzes that I have. These signal blitzes are contentious to some collectors who do not believe that they are original. The signal blitzes have been in the market place for years. I think that Bob Johnson still sells them from the battlefield store in Minneapolis. The top thread color is the same as the bobbin thread color. I have no qualms with this and believe that these signal blitzes are period made and the backing material is also period.

If the eagles are reproduction this opens an entirely new can of worms for the insignia collector!
