If they were tailor made and had WWII era buttons I would not be so skeptical about them or the color but with the removed factory and post War style tag and the French seven size stamps etc my guess is post War.

Early post War military clothing followed very closely and some times exactly to the WWII patterns but differed slightly in color-often this type of brown green or slate grey.

The early Bundeswehr (and other countries) wore a mix of newly made WWII pattern clothing and primarily US WWII/1950s gear. The method used to make clothing in the 50s and into the early 60s were basically the same as late war clothing manufacture so you get the same hardware, same buttons, same stitching etc.

I too thought of post-war when I initially saw these. The problem (in my head) is that I don't recall the Bundeswehr ever going olive-drab for their wool uniforms. I have Berghose of a similar design (albeit kneebundhosen), but they are medium-gray.

I am not leaning towards WWII, though I think they are authentic (i.e. no attempt to deceive) - I just don't know for what service.

Could they be for the early Bundesgrenschutz or Zoll? It would make sense that a veteran of the Gebirgsdienst would continue service in one of these areas.

Yes chipmunk hence the stripes and not so bushy tail. Plenty of those out west!
I need to stop participating while using my little phone screen images!
Anyway I vote early post war Polizei hence the mottled look material.
        Not BW army, I agree.
Could there have been mountain polizei post war (gebirgspolizei?) or the stirrups (straps) have nothing to do with mountain...Is the material stretchy?

Details that I've sometimes missed, especially when looking at images on my phone! Too small!
Maybe we should just bury the hatchet....swap it for a peace pipe!
PS: I believe this to be a red squirrel! (not a chipmunk!) but correct me if I'm wrong!

            pic

Sorry to go off topic slightly but I hope that you don't think that the photo in post 16 is an original ww2 picture. But just in case you do then, its not. It was taken at a re-enactors training weekend for FJR2 UK and the squirrel was photo chopped in. The gentleman in the photo also appeared in a picture on the Fallschijager section regarding war time pictures of the FG42 second model gun.

            Good thread though....carry on.

OK Jonathan. Thanks for clarifying...This thread is getting all "squirrely",
jumping from one topic to another! Lets try again!

Note Army (Heer) eagle on SS visor!
