Heer Major's Military Police Field Gray Wrapper

missing the point
I think some of you are spot on but a few are missing the point. This wrapper might "simply" have been to the personal taste of the officer wearing it. He may or may not have belonged to any specific Military Police Panzer or Armored unit. He simply could have been a major in the Heer Feldgendarmerie who liked the cut and style of the Heer field gray wrapper tunic. This one is tailor made in Worms Germany. As stated, I will post detailed and much clearer photos next week. A major who could afford it could wear what he preferred as long as it conformed somewhat to regulations..
Many examples are known in US Army with Paratrooper officers wearing AAC A-2 leather jackets, tanker jackets worn by Infantry officers, etc. I'm not saying this guy was without a doubt a MP armored division officer .

has nothing to do with the Heeres Feldgendarmerie Field gray wrapper topic. A different branch, different uniform
(but similar in cut).
It is an unofficial personal preference thing as stated. An anomaly if real. Certainly looks neat with that orange piped crusher!Last edited by NickG; 05-22-2015, 05:40 PM.

At the end of the day everyone is just making wild comments right now, those few pics are not even enough to start calling good from bad or vice versa. Could it exist, absolutely, is it all period done... much better pics in some decent light that are not all blurry will help go down that road.
Tunics with DAK ribbons are uncommon, I only have a few pics of guys in black wrappers wearing the ribbon in the lapel of their wrappers. I have never seen one on a stug wrapper so lets get some much better pics before we start trying to determine anything from 4 or 5 terrible photos. Matt

Spot on Matt, with out better photos ,its opinion based on speculation
IMO (speculation only), it more than likely a postwar refurbished wrap

Although of course wraps have been observed by others than out of functional purposes (i.e. admin or medical personal); in these cases they were members of armored units; FG never were and stood under the command of a Army Group (Feldgendarmerie Bataillon) and subsequently Division (Feldgendarmerietrupp).

Bill.
There is a concurrent discussion of this particular Stug wrapper on the Police Forum you may wish to take a look at.

This is within the context of a larger discussion of Police Panzer wrappers in general but it may be of interest to you before you plunk down a lot of money.

I defer to those who are keen about FG insignias about their originality.
But considering avaible pics, i would say their condition don't match with the wrapper wich seems almost unworn.
I doubt already used insignias would have been applied for a new private purchase order.
The appliation of this type of breast eagle, on a supposed privately tailored wrapper made with hight quality material for an officer with rank of major, looks rather crude and is usualy observed, mostly seen for NCO's best tunics.
A private purchase for esthetitcal choice would have logicaly drive to a classical officer bullion eagle.
And i'm not conviced at all by the wrap itself for reasons i will not expose, even if as a non rugular issue item , no reliable comparizon is possble with standart manufactured wrappers.
Never say never is one thing, but one have to think that period pics of feldgrau wrappers in some kind of unit supposed to have officialy received them are pretty rare, like Einsenbahnpanzerzüge, so for FG...
I know the "veterinary case" pic illustrates "everything is possible" particulary for an officer, but this wrapper needs to believe in it, which is not my case.
Just my opinion of course.
